ALLERGAN HORIZON GRANT PROGRAM

Allergan is proud to sponsor the fifth annual Horizon Grant Program. This fellowship award program has been created and supported by Allergan, a global leader in eye care committed to the future of ophthalmology. The purpose of the Allergan Horizon Fellowship Grant Program is to advance the practice of ophthalmology by supporting academic medical institution fellowship programs. Allergan recognizes the important role fellows play in contributing to ophthalmology research and development.

The Allergan Horizon Grant Program provides multiple awards to academic medical institutions to support fellows seeking careers in academic medicine. These awards will fund fellowship programs that conduct clinical research in the diagnosis or pharmacological treatment of glaucoma, corneal, and retinal diseases.

Allergan will contribute funding toward the development and implementation of the Horizon Grant Program. Fellowship grants will be awarded in the amount of $50,000 each, which must be used by June 30, 2011.

Grant applications will be reviewed by an independent academic advisory board with the assistance of the Allergan Grant Review Committee. Applications should be submitted by the department chairs, division chiefs, or fellowship directors of the academic institutions. Applicants will be required to provide information about their institution and fellowship program, provide historical information about past clinical fellows from your institution, list research programs/projects currently ongoing in which an existing fellow is participating, and describe specific research programs/projects Allergan Horizon Grant fellow will be conducting in the coming year. Applications are limited to one per department at each academic institution. The institution will be required to cite the research conducted (and if applicable, published) in the specific therapeutic area within the past 5 years. We will also ask for a listing of recent fellows (within the past 5 years) from the institution who have pursued careers as clinician scientists in academic medicine.

Applications should be received by Allergan Medical Affairs no later than Friday, June 25, 2010. This time frame has been implemented to coincide with the commencement of fellowship programs at most academic institutions. Grant awards will be announced during the summer.
